THAMES Valley Police is continuing to encourage football fans to support their country and enjoy the tournament while reminding them to stay safe and drink responsibly.
With England’s final match of the group stage taking place in South Africa tomorrow, fans will be watching and supporting at gatherings across the country.
Inspector John Fox, alcohol co-ordinator for Thames Valley Police, said: “Neighbourhood policing teams and officers across the Force will carrying out extra patrols to engage with supporters and make sure it is enjoyable for everyone.
“We will be using Bluetooth equipment to send out safety messages and have bottled water available to hand out to fans after the game.
“Although we expect people to support England and enjoy an alcoholic drink we are asking people to do this responsibly. Any violence, crime or disorder which could ruin the tournament for others will not be tolerated - our policing will be firm but fair.
“If you can’t remember the game and end up in hospital or a police cell because you have simply drunk too much, you are a liability to both yourself, your friends and the public at large.” |
