Thames Valley Police is preparing for thousands of visitors to South Oxfordshire in anticipation of the start of the Henley Regatta tomorrow (30/6).

Henley Regatta is an internationally renowned rowing event, held every year on the River Thames by the town of Henley in South Oxfordshire, and lasts for five days (Wednesday to Sunday) over the first weekend in July.

Area Commander for South Oxfordshire, Supt Chris Sharp wants to reassure the community about the role police will play.

He said: “I want people to stay safe this week at the Regatta. My officers will be out to provide reassurance and a visible deterrent to crime.

“Please don’t be tempted to go for a swim in the river, particularly in the warm weather, and respect the local people by staying on public land and parking sensibly.

“Uniquely this year, we will be using Bluetooth technology to help spread useful messages throughout the day, such as how full the local bars are or reminders about when the last train leaves, so make sure your Bluetooth is enabled.”
